Xela AID-SOSEP join project preschool1995-Present.
Xela AID constructed the building housing the preschool located there as a weaving cooperative in 1995. In 2006, the cooperative disbanded and the building was repurposed. Today, through a partnership with SOSEP, a project of the First Lady of Guatemala, children age 1-7 of especially underserved families attend preschool weekdays beginning at 8 a.m. Besides instruction, the children are provided with two hot meals. The facility is open until 4 p.m., additionally affording mothers—many of whom are caring for multiple children—a needed break.

Xela AID provides a teacher and funds for materials to supplement government funding, all by way of a single generous donor. Xela AID contributes the building and approximately 20% of the support necessary to operate the preschool which gives a needed head start to some of the most needy children in Guatemala today.
