About Abdi Sami (1953-2012)
Abdi served as Xela AID's trusted advisor as we expanded our work in sustainable community development. His professional career spanned more than 25 years in executive management and consulting. He served as a board member of the Foundation for Self-Sufficiency in Central America with Jose "Chencho" Alas, formerly advisor to human rights advocate Archbishop Romero. Abdi also served on the boards of the United Nations Association of Seattle and the Voices Education Project. He worked with Mercy Corps in Iran and Afghanistan, and organized delegations to Iran to support diplomatic relations and peace. In his professional career, he served as CEO of Dream Quest Images, was an Executive VP at Walt Disney Company and Sr. VP of Canadian Studios for Starz Entertainment. He graduated from the USC School of Cinema, and besides his commercial work in film, used his love of photography and film to share his enlightened perspective on the beauty and value of the world's diverse peoples.

We are forever grateful to Abdi for his insight and guidance,
and proudly dedicate this fund to his life work and legacy.
