Xela Aid responds to requests for assistance from needy communities in the Quetzaltenango [Xela] area of Guatemala with the goal of creating partnerships for the ultimate purpose of self-reliance. It's current focus is the village of San Martin Chiquito and surrounding areas in Guatemala's highlands.

Among Xela Aid's projects have been:
  • medical, optical and dental missions
  • construction projects
  • community horticulture projects [medicinal herbs focus]
  • a weavers' and midwives' cooperative, midwifery internships
  • educational grants, continuing education sponsorship for adults and teachers
  • energy-efficient stove construction
  • clothing and holiday gifts for economically disadvantaged and orphaned children
  • other projects as needs have arisen.

As many as 60 volunteers a year have traveled to Guatemala with Xela Aid, while volunteers have work year-round in the U.S. to support communities through fundraising and various other activities.
